TikTok stories disappear after 24 hours, but sometimes you want to remove one before it expires. Maybe you posted something by accident, changed your mind, or the story does not reflect how you want to present yourself.
Delete a Story from the TikTok App
To delete a TikTok story before it expires:
- Open the TikTok app
- Tap your profile picture in the bottom right
- Look at the top of your profile for your active story (your profile picture will have a colored ring around it)
- Tap your profile picture to open your story
- Tap the three dots or the more icon (usually in the bottom right)
- Select "Delete Story"
- Confirm by tapping "Delete"
The story is removed immediately. Your followers will no longer see it, and it will not appear in their story feeds.
Delete a Story from the Website
On a computer, you can delete a TikTok story by going to your profile, clicking on your active story, and selecting the delete option. The process is similar to the mobile app.
What If You Want to Keep the Story?

Can You Delete a Story After 24 Hours?

Privacy Settings for Stories
If you do not want certain people to see your stories, you can adjust your privacy settings instead of deleting them. Go to Settings > Privacy > Story and choose who can view your stories. You can hide stories from specific people or make them visible only to your close friends.
Can Other People See You Deleted a Story?
No. When you delete a story, it simply disappears. There is no notification sent to your followers saying that you removed a story. If someone already viewed it before you deleted it, they might remember it, but they will not receive any alert about the deletion.
