We have all posted something and immediately regretted it. Maybe it was a blurry photo you thought looked fine, or a caption that did not come out right. The good news is that Snapchat lets you delete your stories, both individual snaps and the entire story. Here is exactly how to do it.
Deleting a Single Snap from Your Story
If you only want to remove one snap from your story without deleting everything, here is what you do:
- Open Snapchat and go to your profile screen by tapping your Bitmoji or profile icon in the top left
- Under My Story, you will see your active story. Tap on it to open it
- Swipe through the snaps until you find the one you want to delete
- Tap the three dots in the top right corner of that snap
- Select Delete and confirm
That snap will be removed from your story immediately. Anyone who has not viewed it yet will no longer be able to see it.
Deleting Your Entire Story
To delete your entire story at once:
- Go to your profile screen
- Find My Story under the Stories section
- Tap the three dots next to My Story
- Tap Delete Story and confirm
This removes every snap from your story. The story will disappear from your friends feeds immediately.
Can You Delete a Story After 24 Hours?
Snapchat stories automatically disappear after 24 hours, so there is nothing to delete once they expire. However, if you have your story saved to Memories, you can delete it from there. Go to Memories, find the story, press and hold it, and select Delete.
What Happens When You Delete a Story?
When you delete a story snap, it is removed from everyones view immediately. If someone has already seen it, they will not be able to see it again (unless they saved it). The view count and viewer list for that snap will no longer be accessible.
Saving Your Story Before Deleting
If you want to keep a copy of your story before deleting it, you can save it to Memories first. Open your story, tap the download icon (downward arrow), and it will be saved. You can also use our Snapchat Story Downloader if you want to save public stories to your device directly.
Final Thoughts
Deleting a story on Snapchat is straightforward once you know where to look. The option is always there if you change your mind about something you posted. Just remember that if someone has already screenshotted your story, deleting it will not remove their saved copy. So think before you post, and delete if you need to.
